Off to Italy...

We left our lovely Switzerland abode and headed off to Italy for a day. After getting up early, we took the train to town and boarded a bus for the small city of Aosta. Along the way, we weaved around the Switzerland Alps, passed through small villages, and stopped at the border to get a stamp in our passport (We were all excited about that - Oh boy!).

We arrived in Aosta around mid-morning and started our day by touring around some of the Roman ruins and ancient churches. Our first stop was the Teatro Romano - an old Roman theater with remnants of a stage, semi-circular stone bleachers, and a grand wall in the background. We then wandered through a museum with photos of the city, toured a recovered crypt of a long-gone church, and climbed to the top of a standing church to see old frescoes in the attic. We also saw an old city gate with small arches for pedestrians and a large arch for the chariots, the main Piazza, and a couple more small churches.

Eventually our bellies tired of sightseeing and we set off to experience the delicious tastes of Italy... Pizza, bruschetta, and of course Gelato!!! Mmmm! Afterwards, we wandered some more around town, enjoying the Italian feel of Aosta and reminiscing about our first trip to Italy together when Megan and I visited Cecily in Rome for a spectacular tour around the major Italian cities.

After a long day of walking around in the hot sun, we returned to our home in Switzerland where we were brought back to the Swiss culture with a traditional meal of cheese and chocolate fondue.
