A Glacier in the Alps
Upon awaking this morning and looking out my window, I had to double check that I was not in a dream... my eyes delighted in a view of grand rugged mountains surrounded by blue skies and wisps of white clouds while my ears filled with songs of singing birds and distant bells of roaming cows. I knew another spledid day laid before me.
We wandered to the Wellner's house where blueberry pancakes awaited our hungry tummies. After happily munching down the pancakes, Linda and Zoe took us on another walk in the Alps. Today we drove a ways to the head of a trail leading to Trient Glacier.
The trail led us down a rather flat path along the mountainside. Brilliant wildflowers, colorful butterflies, and carved tree trunks decorated the path before us while views of surrounding peaks filled the skyline in the distance.
We mozied along and took plenty of breaks to take in the scenery and enjoy the warm sunshine. I could sit in these hills all day without getting bored of my surroundings. Soon we found ourselves walking along a rocky stream filled with frigid water that had come from the giant glacier before us. Zoe found crystal rocks in the cool waters while we chatted and soaked up views of distant waterfalls, green rocky hillsides, and the enourmous outpouring of white glacial snow. With only a few local walkers passing by us, the site seemed barren compared to the crowds of camera laden tourists we saw at Franz Joseph and Fox glaciers in New Zealand. I don't know how Switzerland manages to keep their treasures so hidden, but I feel lucky to be let in on their secrets.
